Luan Parle
With two awards already under her belt, Luan Parle is ready for and capable of incredible success. She bagged the Irish Tatler music award for Woman Of The Year and the Meteor award for Best Irish Female Artist last year. This has been a fantastic achievement and the support she has received from her homeland has been resounding. “I’ve just finished a fifty-date tour of Ireland. I worked two or three nights a week and for the remainder of the days I spend promoting the shows. The first single was the tenth most played song on Irish radio of 2007. The other days of the week spare I’d spent going to the schools, doing radio and promoting myself that way.” It’s obvious from the moment I’d heard of Luan on myspace—she has a phenomenal amount of support from the site—that her musical career was not carved out for her; it’s been home grown, and this was even more evident with her father Joe sitting around the table speaking very passionately about her music and her achievements. “My dad was my vocal trainer. I always loved to sing as a child so my first stage was in front of congregation in church and my dad used to train me and the kids at school for the church choir. Rehearsal would always be at my house. So it was like ‘ok we’ll give you a song’. I think that was really my first audience and that was every weekend, so I used to have the chance to perform there and that was my first introduction.” From there her father has played a major role in her musical career from managing and looking after her band as a youngster and always being present to deter any problems they may have encountered. It’s obvious from all of this that Luan’s musical career started a lot earlier than many of singers out there and in fact it makes me wonder whether she went from school straight into full-time music career. “I wrote my first song when I was eleven, which is on myspace and was played on local TV; the late night show and the toy show…The whole album thing just happened really; I was spotted on TV following all that and that was when I went on to record the first album called FIRST IMPRESSIONS. I did a little bit of promoting and what happened was the label wanted to take me onto Nashville and figuring that I was only twelve at the time, the decision was made for me. So I didn’t go to Nashville. And that was it really. I went back to school and in the meantime I put my band together and played locally and got involved in writing all the time with the intention that when I finished school I’d go back and obviously then it would be my choice.”To read this article in full by Laura Bethell purchase a copy of the March 08 issue of Maverick Magazine today…
