Allison Owsley CD Review

Lovely debut album that is all country

Hailing from the small town of Cross Timbers in Missouri, Allison Owsley knew that she needed to head for Nashville to realise her dream, and at nineteen years of age she took that huge step. Seven years on and she now has a degree in music business from the Middle Tennessee State University. She made her Fan Fair debut in 2005 along with debuting on Rosebud Records, and has now released this CD consisting of eight good solid country tracks.

Allison has a very sweet voice, not overly powerful, but very pleasant. All the songs are very country and so should hopefully get her some reasonable air-play.

There are a couple of Larry Cordle/Leslie Satcher songs on the album, the beautiful ballad All By My Lonesome, and the tender strains of Goin’ Down Hard (also co-written by Don Polythress) which includes some wonderful fiddle playing.

Probably the best tracks for me are the Bobbie Cryner honky-tonker Daddy Laid The Blues On Me (although I do still prefer Cryner’s own version). The soulful country/blues number Rainbow In My Tears, on which her vocals could quite easily melt butter they smoulder so much. There is also a quality country duet with label-mate Brice Henderson on the ballad You’re Not Here, their voices go together so well on this lovely tune that it would be an injustice if they did not duet together on more songs in the future.

Fine CD from a country singer who hopefully will keep getting better with each new release. Dave Knowles
