Alternative sensibilities with pop overtures.
A psychedelic dream-induced album, with the odd moments of raised tempo, as well as some fine kaleidoscopic sounds - this in a sentence is Ecki.
A rhythmic drum beat intros the mellow Radar, with Ecki’s high vocal delivery sounding closer to Morrissey while the song builds to a frenzied crescendo, before quietening right down again for the close.
Some fine guitar playing opens up the very good Different Sky, and remains throughout accompanying Ecki’s smouldering vocals.
His slightly tormented voice delivers the simple ballad God’s And Heroes, and it is brilliant thanks to its musical simplicity. The same can be said for the final track on the album which has Ecki accompanied only by acoustic guitar and keyboards. Giving Up The Band has him questioning his musical career and what it has wrought on his personal life, but, the end result is that he cannot leave this path that he has chosen for himself.
Fine alternative country/pop album from a fine singer. David Knowles
