Modern foot-tapping mix of country styles
Right from the start, this album gets your feet tapping along to Communication followed by some head nodding with City Livin’ and by the third song, Wiggle Worm, there is some definite body swaying incorporated. SUPERHERO BROTHER is their third album on Jack Johnson’s Brushfire record label, and their tenth overall. It is a mixed bag of different experimental styles of country music with some rap, rock and blues added in for good measure. This works well and just as the tempo quietens with Soft and Sweet, followed by Wontcha Come Home Now and Crumble, you are woken again by the upbeat tempo of What We Need plus sounds of the blues with Grandmother, and the jazzy sounding Georgia Brown.
SUPERHERO BROTHER was recorded in the groups native home of Philadelphia at The Studio and the band’s own Philadelphonic Studios. It has been a long and successful run for the group since their self titled debut album. They think of themselves as a hardworking band, which is proven by the fact they have a non-stop performing ethic and still do more than 150 shows a year. Daniel Sweetman
