There is an excitement surrounding country music right now that is unpresedented. The industry is buzzing with the recently announced line up for Country 2 Country 2017. Who would have thought that the Zac Brown Band who caused massive controversy in 2014, after a lot of their audience walked out when witnessing the band perform two rock covers, would be back to grace the arena next year! I, for one, have nothing but huge respect for this incredible band and they’ll be the highlight of the line up for me. It would interest me to find out what you think about the 2017 line up?
Meeting The Shires for this issue’s cover feature, was another highlight of my month. The duo are so down to earth, so grounded and it was so lovely spending a morning with them, talking openly and watching videos of Ben’s little boy River. Their success in country music over the past few years has been incredible and they’re now classed as ambassadors for country music in the UK. There are a few things though that really stand out for me about them. Firstly their two recent accolades:
The first UK country music group to sign to a major Nashville label with their recent signing to Dot Records under The Big Machine Label Group
The fastest selling UK country album of all time for MY UNIVERSE
Secondly their approach is incredibly inspiring. Their commitment and dedication to building their career from the ground up definitely makes them what they are today. The Shires are a band, much like Ward Thomas, that deserve our full attention, and our full support. It’s not often we, in the UK, have a successful homegrown country group that we can shout about – so shout! Shout about them to your heart’s delight!
Lastly, with christmas time is fast approaching and New Year celebrations around the corner, I wanted to take a quick look at the year that’s been. For Maverick, we’ve had an incredible year, and I thought it would be a great chance to catch up with the fantastic team we have here working on Maverick and their hightlights of the year.
Lauren Barnett (Assistant Editor): “The Ramblin’ Man Fair 2016 was my highlight of the year – especially my interview with Cadillac Three. It was great to see country and rock fans alike enjoying great music in the sun!”
Hayley Burgess (Designer): “My time spent in the Press Room at C2C 2016 allowed me a glipse of the personalities that regularly feature in Maverick”
Laura Bethell (Managing Editor): “C2C is always a crazy time for me, but I took the time out to sneak into the arena and caught two songs of Chris Stapleton’s set – that was the most incredible performance I’ve seen all year!”
Seann Carter (Project Manager): “Seeing great British country acts taking over the country scene, my highlight being Ward Thomas achieving number one!”
We’d love to know what your highlights of the year were too to the usual address! We wish you a wonderful 2017!
