Sarah MacDougall
The Beehive, Swindon, May 19, 2010
Talented singer-songwriter Sarah MacDougall made a return visit to the Beehive as part of her latest tour. Accompanied by her Dobro and trumpet playing friend Tim Tweedale, Sarah started the first set with Crow’s Lament from her ACROSS THE ATLANTIC album. She continued with Headed For The Hills before performing a new song, Before These Storms, which will be on her new CD out later this year. There was an excellent cover of the Tom Waits’ Long Way Home, followed by another new song Biggest Mistake. The first set moved forwards with Sarah involving the audience on her popular Cry Wolf and an excellent version of Sarah’s Across The Atlantic. This is a very popular song, which always goes down really well with the audience. The first set was rounded off by It’s A Storm, another new song which is I believe is to be the title of Sarah’s forthcoming album. After a short break in which Sarah signed CDs and posters it was back to the live music. Tim Tweedale’s Dobro playing was magnificent throughout the evening as demonstrated on the opening number of the second half—Ballad Of Sherri. Sarah went on to perform I’ve Got Your Back and two more new songs Day By Day and Mum. If the new songs performed are anything to go by then the new album is going to be wonderful and a big success. Sarah performed the requested Pain Reliever followed by another excellent new song, Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Lose. Hundred Dollar Bills gave Tim a chance to shine as he played the trumpet, giving the song extra depth. The last part of the evening was very intimate as the guitar and Dobro were unplugged and the microphones turned off and the audience were asked to move to the smaller bar. Those who followed were treated to three totally acoustic songs, which went down really well. Everyone was enthusiastic and appreciative of the change in tempo. After two hours of amazing music it was time for the evening to come to an end. Sara Hunt
